Nine Lessons and Carols - Our annual famous Nine Lessons and Carols Service will this year be presented by the Stella Chorus.
The service takes us through nine biblical passages from the old and new testaments, interspersed with beautiful carols from our visiting choir as well as congregational hymns.
Stella Chorus is a vibrant and accomplished ensemble of young professional musicians, music graduates, and current music students, directed by Phoebe Halpern and united by a shared passion for choral excellence. The choir is voluntary and comes together to sing at venues across London and the North East, joining forces with the County Durham Young Chorus to perform Horovitz' Captain Noah at the Gala Theatre Durham, early this year.
Many members first connected through singing in the Durham University Chamber Choir and Choral Society or as choristers at cathedrals such as Wells and St Paul’s. Drawing on this strong musical foundation, the Stella Chorus delights in performing together and sharing their love of music with diverse audiences. The choir’s members bring an impressive range of musical experience, with many also singing in renowned ensembles such as the National Youth Choir, Genesis Sixteen, Rodolfus Choir, The 24, Durham Cathedral Choir, Newcastle Cathedral Choir, Phoenix Consort, and the choir of Trinity College, Cambridge. Additionally, most singers have received training at institutions including the Royal Academy of Music, Samling Academy, Rodolfus Foundation and Guildhall School of Music and Drama. This collective expertise allows Stella Chorus to bring a distinctive sound to their performances, blending the precision of cathedral traditions with the energy and creativity of young professional voices.
