Marriages

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

1 Corinthians 13.4-7

Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage! You are welcome here.

Marriage is an ancient tradition, one that is both a legal and spiritual recognition of your commitment to one another. St Paul’s is a beautiful, historic building in which to formally start your life together with God’s blessing.

We can offer a marriage service to people who live within our parish boundaries or have a ‘qualifying connection’ to the church, which may be historical (for example, your parents were married here) or built up by regular attendance at our services for at least six consecutive months. You can find more information on the Church of England’s rules for getting married in church at the Your Church Wedding site. To avoid any confusion, we recommend that you contact us early on in your wedding planning to tell us your good news.

The first step to getting married at St Paul’s is to get in touch and arrange to speak with the Rector, Rev. Simon Grigg, who can explain the practicalities of getting married and answer any of your questions. We hope that St Paul’s will become your spiritual home, not only as you prepare for your wedding, but beyond.

Please note that due to the pressure of Christmas concerts and carol services we do not generally hold weddings in December.

If you are marrying elsewhere but live in our parish, we would be glad to publish your banns of marriage and to support you as you prepare for the wedding, and afterwards too.

St Paul’s can comfortably seat up to 200 and we will endeavour to help you to get married at a time and on a date that suits you.

Please note

As part of our Eco Church commitments, we no longer permit the use of floral foam in the church or grounds.

A cross made of chicken wire and moss is decorated with flowers and branches to create a floral arrangement.
