Join us for the flagship concert to round off 2024's Mozart Fest.

Programme:

Piano Concerto in C major K415 - Mozart

Requiem in D minor K626 - Mozart

A time to mourn and a time to dance - Andrew Campling

Marcel Sinfonia

London Docklands Singers

Kazunari Shiraiso - Piano

Andrew Campling - Conductor

Join us for one of the great works of the choral repertoire. Mozart's Requiem is 'as transcendental as it is human, and out of tremor and guilt it leads us towards peace and salvation' (Karl Geiringer). The drama of the Dies Irae, the beauty of the Recordare and the aching pathos of the Lacrimosa need no introduction. Our concert also includes Mozart's Piano Concerto in C major K415, composed in Vienna in 1782. The concerto reveals Mozart's supreme mastery in writing for the piano, his wonderful gifts as a melodist, and his astounding ability to create contrasting moods and emotions with such economy of notes. Andrew Campling's 'A time to mourn and a time to dance', commissioned by Julia Payne during the pandemic, rounds off an exciting and varied programme.

London Docklands Singers

Choir

In late 1992, Andrew Campling founded the London Docklands Singers with a small group of friends and colleagues who enjoyed making music together. The choir soon grew and the first performance in April 1993 saw about 30 singers on the stage. Today, the choir numbers some 70 singers, aged from 20 to 70+ from a wide variety of backgrounds and professions, living and working all over London and beyond.

The choir performs mainly in churches in London’s Docklands and East London as well as in St. Paul’s Church, Covent Garden and – every few years – at Southwark Cathedral. When possible, concerts help raise money for a variety of charitable causes. The choir’s annual Christmas events are generally in aid of the homeless charity CRISIS and have raised more than £30,000 since the year 2000.

Marcel Sinfonia

Orchestra

The Marcel Sinfonia brings together graduates from leading conservatoires in London such as the Royal Academy of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. The Sinfonia performs regularly in Southwark Cathedral and St Paul’s Covent Garden, and has also performed in Christ Church Cathedral Dublin and The Signet Library, Edinburgh. The orchestra’s repertoire includes concertos by Vivaldi, Marcello, Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schumann and Poulenc. The Sinfonia’s name derives from the Marcel Suite, composed by the orchestra’s musical director Andrew Campling. www.andrewcampling.com
