Biographies

Xiaoyu Yu

Violin

Xiaoyu Yu completed a BMus degree at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2020. Now continuing MMus degree there with Professor Diana Cummings and John Crowford. She also learned piano, conducting, arrangement, film music composition and producing there. She has been awarded Trinity College London Scholarship, Leverhulme Trust scholarship and GREAT China scholarship. Before coming to London, she studied with Zhi Pan. She played in many orchestras including Trinity Laban symphony orchestra (first violin), Ernest Read Symphony orchestra (first violin), Wen Hua Ai Yue symphony orchestra (first violin). Now she is focusing on music education and research questions about how to improve violinists' flow experience during practicing and performing based on the theory of Alexander technique and Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi ‘s optimal experience.

Yiyao (Phoebe) Lu

Piano

Phoebe, Chinese pianist, began her piano journey with William Chan (Weiling) from the junior department of Shanghai Conservatory before coming to England. Phoebe went to Wells Cathedral School with a full music scholarship under Hilary Coates and then joined Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with scholarships for both BMus and MMus study. She won the Mid-Somerset festival, was a finalist in the John Longmire Beethoven competition, and was highly commended in the Alfred Kitchin Competition. She has also been performing in many concerts in China, Italy, and England. She is now in her final year of master’s study with Douglas Finch at Trinity.

Enju Liu

Cellist

She started her undergraduate in Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with Trinity scholarship from 2018, currently studying with Richard Markson and Professor Lionel Handy from Royal Academy of Music. In 2020, She held her first charity recital in Wenshui Arts and Cultural Center, Taiwan, which supported for medical workers with covid-19. During these years she got lots of chances to play in public, such as Wigmore Hall, St. Alfege church, Old Royal Naval Chapel etc. She started her music journey with her mother at age 6 in Taiwan, she studied the cello under Russian cellist Artem Kionstaninov and the principal cellist of Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Yihao Zhang. 

Xianer Xie

Violin

Xianer Xie, she obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Music Performance from South China University of Technology under Professor Lin Jiang & Fan Yang. She currently studies MA in music education at University College of London with several scholarships. She performed in CIMA Vienna International Music Festival, National Arts Foundation Project Chamber Music Concert, The 6th College Students Art Show and the 10th China—ASEAN Music Festival.

Ziyang Huang

Erhu

Ziyang, a young Chinese Erhu Musician, trained at China Central Conservatory of Music with Professor Jiangbo Zhu from 2008-2021, graduated with an undergraduate honours degree. She was the only student who held a successful Erhu Solo Graduation Concert there. Currently, she is doing her MA at University College London. As a professional erhu player, she has been invited to tour China with Twelve girls’ band and the Central Chinese Orchestra; participates in annual recordings of festive events on CCTV; selected as a young Chinese representative to the Sino-French Friendship and Cultural Exchange Conference; Guided the Tsinghua University music Ensemble etc.

Yuri Inoshita

Piano

Yuri Inoshita is a pianist based in London, who was born in Barcelona and raised in Paris and Tokyo. She started her piano lessons and musical training at the age of 5. From the age of 7, she studied piano, solfege, and choir in the Conservatoire de Saint-Germain en Laye. After she moved to Japan at the age of 10, she started her training on dictation, harmony, sight reading and chamber music besides the piano lessons in Toho Gakuen School of Music. In 2017, she graduated from Toho Gakuen High School of Music, majoring in piano performance under the tuition of Mikako Abe. Besides her musical training in Toho Gakuen, she graduated from Hosei University, majoring in Intercultural Communication. Since the very young age, she has participated in several masterclasses taken by international pianists such as Jérôme Granjon, Pablo Galdo, Dmitri Alexeev, Pascal Rogé, etc. Yuri is currently on her postgraduate studies at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, majoring in piano performance under the tuition of Martino Tirimo.

Yujie Yang

Violin

Yujie Yang is a violinist from China, based in London. She is now studying MMus at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance with Diana Cummings. She was invited to Germany with Xiamen Music School orchestra. Yujie continued to study violin with Shengming Liang and Jing Yang during her undergraduate studies in economics in Beijing. She is also as the deputy principal of the BJFU Symphony Orchestra and won the Gold Award of the All-Beijing University Music Festival in 2019. During her undergraduate studies, she often held chamber music concerts as the violinist of the string quartet and participate in the China Film Symphony Orchestra on a northwest tour in 2020.

Luyu Fang

Piano

Luyu obtained a Bachelor of Science in Economics at University College London. She has devoted herself into music composition and performance in her spare time, practicing hard on her singing and acting skills and topped in several vocal, composition, and piano competitions. Luyu had a wide range of performance, from vocal/piano solos, choir performance, to musicals. In 2021, she received the opportunity to perform in a students’ musical ‘Come from Away’organised by West End Musical Theatre.

Working as the president of UCL Chinese Students and Scholars Associations, Luyu outreached to institutes, and successfully increased the impact of Chinese culture by putting more Chinese music, dance, and drama onto stage in different festival performances. Actively working with institutes (such as Resource with Autism and the UCL Chinese Choir), Luyu has initiated Chinese Choir open Social Activities having more than 500 participants present and helped conduct music projects related with Autism throughout the year. Moreover, her composition of the theme song for the 70th Anniversary Celebration of High School Affiliated to Fudan University has received over 50,000 plays.
