By Lamplight is an intimate live performance experience that blends classical music with immersive visual design. Set within a glowing landscape of lamps, the performance invites audiences into a warm, transportive world where music and storytelling unfold side by side. 

Created and performed by mezzo-soprano Rachel Payne and pianist Jack Tyndale-Biscoe, the program reimagines art song for modern audiences, focusing on emotional connection, atmosphere, and immediacy. The setting is deliberately close and personal, allowing the audience to feel fully inside the music rather than observing it from a distance. 

The visual environment plays a central role. A multitude of individually selected lamps create a layered, living backdrop that shifts in tone and intensity throughout the performance, echoing the emotional arc of the music. 

Designed as a signature live format, By Lamplight offers a new way to experience classical performance: intimate, cinematic, and deeply human.
