A Friendly Guide to Coming to St Paul's

We recognise that Church can seem a somewhat forbidding place, if you have never been before, and are unsure of what to do. We want everyone to feel welcome, so here is a brief guide to what to expect if you come for a service at St. Paul’s Covent Garden.

All our services are free to attend: you will be invited to make a donation, but this is entirely voluntary. Please dress appropriately for a place of worship, but there is otherwise no dress code whatsoever.

Arrival

We have a disabled accessible ramp, and a disabled toilet. When you arrive at church, you will be greeted by our friendly team; you will be asked if you are staying for the service (if you are sight-seeing, you may be asked to return after the service) You will be given an order of service, but if you need a large print version, just ask. Also, if you need to access a hearing loop, or need gluten free wafers, please just ask: our people are very happy to assist.

Through the Doors

There is no reserved seating at St. Paul’s; please sit wherever you like, though if you feel you might want to leave before the end, you might like to sit near the back. If you are with children, there is a special area reserved for you and them, but it is entirely up to you if you use this. Please switch off your mobile phone while in church: we ALL need some peace and quiet!

During the Service

Your order of service will have instructions about when to stand, sit or kneel, but these are for guidance only; please respond in any way that feels appropriate, and join in the prayers or remain silent as you choose. During Communion services, you will be invited to come forward to receive the Sacrament: if you receive in your own church, you are welcome to receive here. If you don’t wish to receive, you can take your Order of Service with you, and receive a personal Blessing, but, again, if you wish to, feel free to remain in your place.

After the Service

After the Service on Sundays and Wednesdays, refreshments are usually served: you are very welcome to stay, but if you want to leave, that is fine too. There are donation boxes and tapper points as you leave, but please don’t feel you have to contribute: your presence is a blessing to us.

We hope you enjoy your time with us, and we hope you feel the love of God which he longs to pour upon you.
