Xuanxiang Wu, age 18, was admitted to the Primary School of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music at the age of 9, where he studied under Professor Ting Zhong. At 14, he was accepted into the Juilliard School’s Pre-College Division in New York, studying with Dr. Ernest Barretta. In August 2025, he will begin his undergraduate studies at the Juilliard School under the tutelage of Professor Yoheved Kaplinsky.

As a rising pianist, Wu has performed at prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, St. Petersburg State Capella Concert Hall, the National Opera Centre (USA), Van Cliburn Concert Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, and the Shanghai Oriental Art Centre. He has appeared as a soloist with orchestras such as the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra, Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra, New York International Youth Philharmonic, Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, New York Symphony Orchestra, and the Moscow State Conservatory Symphony Orchestra.
Most recently, Wu won First Prize and the Audience Prize at the New York Liszt International Piano Competition and performed Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 1 at Carnegie Hall's Stern Auditorium with the Orchestra of St. Luke's, conducted by Gábor Hollerung.
Wu has garnered numerous awards and scholarships, including:
- 2023 – First Prize, Hill Concerto Competition
- 2022 – Grand Prize, Winter Concerto Competition at the Philadelphia International Music Festival; featured by CBS News New York, FOX 5 New York, Queens Ledger, and the World Journal
- 2021 – First Prize and Best Classical Work, Canadian International Piano Competition (Young Artist Division); First Prize in Junior B Division of the GOCAA International Piano Competition Grand Final, and selected as a Contracted Young Artist
- 2020 – First Prize, Global Outstanding Young Artist Competition (Televised); performance featured on SinoVision TV’s “Global Classical Music”; awarded the GRAND PRIX “CROWN OF STARS” from the Music and Stars International Competition in Europe
- 2019 – First Prize and Special Award, St. Petersburg International Music Competition (Junior Piano Division); First Prize, Philadelphia International Piano Master Festival (Professional Group)
- 2018 – First Prize, 8th New York International Music Competition; recipient of the Solomon Mikowsky Award for Outstanding Young Musical Talent; interviewed by the World Journal; performance featured on the UK Classical Music Channel
- 2016–2020 – Five-time recipient of the Niu Ende Piano Scholarship at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Affiliated Middle School
- 2020 – First Prize, Jun Yuan Scholarship for Outstanding Middle School Students from the Tang Junyuan Education Foundation, Shanghai
In August 2025, Wu will present a solo recital at St. Paul’s Church in London. The event is supported by the Liszt Society (UK) and the CIPMF Piano Festival, Founder/Artistic Director: Hao YAO; Co-Artistic Director: Leslie Howard with additional overseas recital engagements and cultural collaborations to follow.
