Marcel Music presents a bespoke, second Concert for Mozart Fest; violinist Kiok Son is joined by composer and pianist Andrew Campling.

Two wonderfully inventive works by Mozart are complemented by some of Bach's extraordinary music for unaccompanied violin. Debussy was a great admirer of both Bach and Mozart. Andrew Campling's Suite d'images completes a rich, varied programme.

Biography

Kiok Son

Violin

Born in Korea, Kiok started playing the violin at the age of twelve. As an undergraduate she studied violin with Professor Jiyoon Ahn and performed the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Sejong String Chamber Orchestra. In 2020 Kiok accepted an offer from the Royal College of Music to do a Master of Performance degree with Professor Radu Blidar. An ardent orchestral musician, Kiok has performed with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe under Mats Zetterqvist, and with the RCM Orchestra under Thomas Zehetmair. Currently based in London, Kiok performs regularly with a number of orchestras including the Marcel Sinfonia.

Andrew Campling

Composer & Pianist

Andrew was a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral, London. A graduate of Keble College, Oxford, Andrew gained a MMus in composition at Goldsmiths’ College, London. He is a member of the Ivors Academy of Composers and Songwriters, and directs Marcel Sinfonia, London Docklands Singers, Thames Chamber Choir, and the Choir of the London School of Economics. Andrew has composed three symphonies, ten concertos and many choral works; his music has been performed in Britain, France, Germany, Austria, USA, India and Australia. His opera, Queen Marie of Romania, to a libretto by Dominick Mereworth, was performed recently at the Romanian Cultural Institute, Belgrave Square.
