Marcel Music presents a bespoke, first concert for Mozart Fest; cellist Anup Kumar Biswas and pianist Andrew Campling present a handful of pieces from Mozart and others.

This programme features works by Mozart, by JS Bach (whose music Mozart deeply respected), and by later composers who acknowledged Mozart's genius.

Biography

Anup Kumar Biswas

Cellist

Born in West Bengal, India, Anup has chosen to make London his home since 1974. He has performed concerts throughout Great Britain, including the Royal Albert Hall, St James’ Palace, Lambeth Palace, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, St John’s Smith Square, Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral, the House of Commons, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Riverside Studios, and Gray’s Inn (where, in addition to a Vivaldi concerto he played an Indian raga at the personal request of HRH the Prince of Wales). Anup has appeared as a soloist playing the Dvorak Cello Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic to a capacity audience. Anup regularly tours the USA including performances at the Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, New York and the Smithsonian Art Gallery, Washington DC. Anup founded the Mathieson Music School in Kolkata in 1994 and has since undertaken countless fund-raising tours to support the school.

Andrew Campling

Pianist

A graduate of Keble College, Oxford, Andrew gained a MMus in composition from Goldsmiths’ College, London. Andrew is a member of the Ivors Academy of Composers and Songwriters. He directs the Marcel Sinfonia, the London Docklands Singers, the Choir of the London School of Economics and the Thames Chamber Choir. His compositions have been performed in Britain, France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, USA, India and Australia; London venues include Westminster Abbey and the Royal Albert Hall. Andrew has composed three symphonies, ten concertos and an opera, Queen Marie of Romania, to a libretto by Dominick Mereworth. Earlier this year Andrew had the honour of directing the Bengal Philharmonic Orchestra at a concert in Kolkata; the concert included his own work Eternity’s Sunrise for solo cello and strings.
