The Actors' Church welcomes Joelene Griffith, Ambrose Connolly and Janet Haney for a intimate concert in classical duets. The program has been hand-picked to explore Europe through language and style.

Joelene Griffith


Emerging Australian soprano Joelene Griffith debuted in 2013 with the Pacific Opera in the role of Cherubino ‘Le Nozze di Figaro’ this was followed by a quick succession of Australian debuts in roles including Amina ‘La Sonnambula’ Belinda ‘Dido and Aeneas’, Fiordiligi ‘Cosi fan Tutte’ and the queen of the night ‘Die Zauberflöte’

In 2017 she was invited to undertake a masters in advanced vocal studies under the guidance of Dennis O’Neill in Wales. This led to her international debut as Cleopatra ‘Giulio Cesare’ with Cardiff Opera where she was invited to return to debut the role of Donna Anna.  In 2019 Joelene also debuted the role of Violetta in ‘La Traviata’ with the Teddington Society who invited her to return to debut the role of Adina ‘Elisir D’Amore’. She reprised the role of Violetta with North Wales Opera Company in 2022. With her ease and natural ability in the upper range she has begun to focus on some of the most challenging coloratura repertoire including Lakme, Tancredi, Zerbinetta, and Lucia di Lammermoor, preparing these roles under the guidance of Jessica Pratt

Ambrose Connolly


Ambrose is a lyric baritone. He graduated from University College London with a BA in Russian and French before moving to Russia to study Opera at the Kazan State Conservatory under the tutelage of Ekaterina Aleksandrovna Laider. He was the winner of the 2020 Serebranie Rosi International Opera Singing Competition. Ambrose has recently completed a Masters in Advanced Vocal Studies at the Wales International Academy of Voice in Cardiff, under the direction of Dennis O’Neill OBE. He was one of eight young singers selected to attend the Glyndebourne Academy for 2021. In 2022 Ambrose will sing the title role of Eugene Onegin with Bath Opera. Later this year he will be engaged to sing as a soloist in La Misa Del Valle with Royal Seville Symphony Orchestra.

Janet Haney


 Janet has worked as a vocal coach and répétiteur for numerous opera companies in the UK and abroad  including Wexford Festival Opera, Welsh National Opera, English Touring Opera, Opera Holland Park, Longborough Festival Opera, Dorset Festival Opera, Islenska Operan (Iceland), Opera Africa (South Africa),  European Chamber Opera and Opera Project.

She is also a vocal coach at the Royal Academy of Music and she regularly coaches at the Gärtnerplatz Opera House in Munich and works with singers on the Frankfurt Opera Programme.  Janet has been Music Director for the opera scenes at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (2018 and 19) . Other Music Director work has included opera scenes at The Birmingham Conservatoire ,  Söngskólinn, Reykjavik and the short works programme at Wexford Festival Opera.  This Spring she was Music Director for La Traviata at the North Wales Opera Studio and in September 2022 she will coach singers at the Opera School in Cape Town University, South Africa.

In concert, she has performed as an accompanist at many of Britain’s Concert Halls including St David’s Hall, Cardiff, The Symphony Hall, Birmingham and the Cadogan Hall, London. Internationally she has given recitals in Spain, Russia, Qatar, New York, Iceland, Ireland and Japan with singers including  Kiri Te Kanawa  and Rosalind Plowright.

Future opera work includes Carmen for Longborough Festival Opera and also at  Dorset Opera this summer on their production of Puccini’s Manon Lescaut.
