The Actors' Church is delighted to welcome graduate Musicians Melanie Gruwez and Sophie Lejava for a concert of bespoke classical repertoire.

Biographies

Melanie Gruwez

Violin

Melanie Gruwez is a Belgian violinist, passionate about different musical genres and collaborations with other art forms. She is an award-winning chamber musician, obtaining the St James Prize 2021 with Picea Quartet, and baroque violinist, having played alongside the Academy of Ancient Music. Her international orchestral experience includes playing at Barbican, Bozar and de Doelen. Additionally, she performed with Ambrose Akinmusire and Whitney, collaborated with dance and theatre such as “VENN” by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and created her own show with film “Melancholia”. She is very passionate about improvisation, having learned with David Dolan, Robert Levin and Yves Senden

Melanie studied with Guido De Neve at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, with Ofer Falk at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and with Shirly Laub at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. She is currently in the second year of her Artist Masters at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama studying with Ofer Falk. Furthermore, she was coached by musicians and ensembles such as Stephan Picard, Pavel Vernikov, Ezster Haffner, Philippe Graffin, Stephanie Gonley, Sergey Ostrovsky, Justus Grimm, Endellion Quartet and Pražák Quartet.

Sophie Lejava

Piano

Sophie Lejava is a postgraduate student and Leverhulme Arts scholar at Guildhall School of Music and Drama where she studies with Professor Philip Jenkins. 

Originally, from Tbilisi, Georgia she is a graduate of Z. Paliashvili Central Music School and Theater and Film Georgia State University where she got her Bachelor’s degree. She mostly enjoys playing the pieces by Romantic composers and has performed at various concerts in New York, London, South Africa and Georgia. Apart from being a musician, Sophie is a professional Actress and has performed both in film and on stage. Her life is all about art and she loves sharing her love and passion for arts with others.
